“There was a fight between the shepherds of Abram’s livestock and the shepherds of Lot’s livestock… So Abram said to Lot,
‘Please, do not let there be any bitterness between you and I, or between my shepherds and yours, since we are relatives. Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If to the left, then I’ll go to the right, and if to the right, then I’ll go to the left.’
Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the whole area surrounding the Jordan was well watered… So Lot chose for himself the whole area surrounding the Jordan.”
Later on the place where Lot chose to live (Sodom and Gomorrah) got destroyed.
If God had found ten righteous people between those two cities he would not have destroyed them… I wonder if Abraham had moved there if he would he have had nine other souls in his camp that were righteous… I wonder if Lot had not been selfish, taking the best land for himself, how many lives would have been spared and how much more time for repentance could have occurred for Sodom and Gomorrah.
The moral: When you make decisions that put yourself over others the ramifications can be devastating, effecting people that you may not even know.
