Are You Right or Are You Listening?

God has recently shown me a lesson.

I am the type of person that gets hung up on right and wrong. I like seeing things black and white;

sometimes that’s a good thing

other times not so much.

My friend and I were talking a few weeks ago and God was revealing to us that His work through His people isn’t so much about doing things a right way or a wrong way so much as it is about moving in love vs. selfishness.

This past Thursday morning I saw this picture in a dream, I tried my best to recreate it:

hearing-and-listening

I had asked God how he wants this blog to look, I got that as a response. When I look at it I think about Saul and Samuel. Saul was convinced about doing something he thought was right, but Samuel told him, “obedience is better than sacrifice.” It is better to listen to God’s Spirit than it is to try and do right and wrong in our own strength.

We get a lot of seemingly great ideas, make plans, but if that’s not the Captain’s orders for us then we need to fall back.

The Sh’ma is found in Deuteronomy 6:4. Sh’ma means “listen,” this was and is one of the, if not the, most important verses in Israeli and Jewish culture. It is the first thing God says when He is repeating the Torah to them through Moses. Sh’ma says we cannot just hear what God is saying we have to listen to Him; to His Spirit. Listening implies that what is being said will get done, it indicates a more submitted and open ear to whatever is being said. We hear things all the time, but it doesn’t mean we are attentive to what we are hearing.

Yeshua said, “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Sometimes we Christians hide behind the Bible so that we can avoid abiding in the Spirit of Christ

and listening to His voice.

God is alive, and I’m not saying don’t read your Bible because He speaks through it,

but we should treat God like He is present and future… as well as past.

Blessings in Christ Jesus,

P.S.

and with all that’s going on in the country, it would be nice if we stopped and listened to each other too… { just sayin’ }
